The eminent mathematician and meteorologist whose interest in chaos theory for weather prediction gave us the following intriguing quotation,
"Does the flap of a butterfly's wings in Brazil set off a tornado in Texas?"

Fractals were brought to my attention many years ago and with my fascination for mathematics and my interest in the artistic, fractal art was a way to combine my interest and skills.

There are different types of fractals but I focus on flame fractal generation as this gives me the radiance and luminosity I find appealing. For me the most interesting aspect of fractals is the work with algorithms and the challenge of producing something artistic from mathematics.

Understanding systems: Making sense of complexity - a new Open University course first presented in 2008. This was to be my final course for a degree and proved to be quite a challenge! It did however, bring my attention again to fractals.

It was then I started to experiment with different digital techniques and now produce contemporary abstract artwork in a style I call photo fractal art.

I start with a photograph, usually a flower and use software techiques to produce a dynamic, colourful image.
