I have been thinking about old age recently as I care for my neighbour, Jean. What will I need for quality of life as I reach old age? After food, shelter and peace of mind my top priority is communication. Emails, texts and Skype, a lifeline for my old age. I have a good network of friends throughout the world, many with English as a second language and they already bring their world into my life. I have just left Jean typing into Word telling her friend Gwennie about her beautiful garden. She used the Internet until her stroke last year, she is 86 next week. Maybe instead of building our savings for our old age we should be building our communication skills?
