The sea is a very important part of my life and my childhood was spent living by the shore of Morecambe Bay. As tides often brought a change in the weather they became a source of everyday conversation.

I remember a few years ago being asked by Marina, my Greek friend, to explain about tides as the waters around Greece are affected by currents and not tides. She needed to analyse a poem about the sea for the Creative Writing course we were doing but had no experience of a tide.

Yesterday I watched the tide come in to Morecambe Bay while having lunch at Eden Lodge with Keith and my friends Varahi, Nina and Ernst.

It was for many reasons a lovely day.
