Today is a special day for Jean, her 86th birthday.
Looking after someone elderly makes you think about your own old age and I think that is something positive, I take the 'knowledge is power' approach.
I have learnt so much about the care system, local hospital, social workers, occupational therapy, district nurse teams, GP service, out of hours GP service, community physiotherapy service and I am sure there are several more! All this for one elderly lady.
We live in times when people are quick to criticise and complain but as Jean's carer I have only received kindness, support and the very best of service from all the above.
It's not always easy caring for an elderly person but it is a privilege and when I hear 'thank you Sue' so many times a day, what better reward.
